Joost – The Official Post

May 3, 2007

My first post already solicited Joost but due to a fairly strong response I’ve decided to start a new thread specifically for invites to Joost.

I don’t mind repeating myself, by the way.

Joost is essentially a program that allows you to watch “live” television through the internet. It contains some pretty main-stream channels such as National Geographic, MTV, and Comedy Central, but it also has a TON of really indie stuff. British Comedy, The Worlds Strongest Man Network, Gong (Anime and Hentai, I think), boxing, racing, music videos, and lots more. This really doesn’t matter when you realize that its free. Free TV. Free TV on your computer. Cool stuff.

Anyways, Joost is still in it’s beta form, and in order to test it, it’s only allowing people to download the program with an invite from another user. I happen to be a user, and I also happen to have several hundred invites.

If you want to try Joost, just leave your e-mail and name in a comment, and I’ll be sure to invite you. I also wouldn’t mind if you bookmarked my new-born site as well.

Dead Honeybees = Dead United States Cuisine Experience?

May 3, 2007

“U.S. beekeepers in the past few months have lost one-quarter of their colonies — or about five times the normal winter losses — because of what scientists have dubbed Colony Collapse Disorder. The problem started in November and seems to have spread to 27 states, with similar collapses reported in Brazil, Canada and parts of Europe.”

According to an article by the Associated Press, this abnormal drop in bee populations could result in a world-wide food shortage, which, in turn, would result in the American diet being forced to consist of bread and water.

No matter how this plays out, someone is going to get what they deserve. I clearly remember an incident during my childhood where I watched a scrawny little foreign boy (indian or asian, one of the two) throw stones at nests of bees. Regardless of how many times he got stung, that little kid went on destroying bees nests. Sure, the bees sting, but what could be more vengefully-gratifying than screwing over the entire human race for all that damn Raid they had to endure?

Honestly, though, this seems like another over-played story by the media. No body knows what’s going on. Bees are dying. They’ve died before. This isn’t the first time in histroy that bees have disappeared in massive numbers, and despite those declines we as Americans continue to eat ourselves into record-breaking obesity.

Let’s consider, though, what might happen if we did have nothing to eat but bread and water? Well, dinner would be easier to prepare. All our problems with obesity would be solved. The average life expectancy would rise. Etcetera, etcetera.

I wonder if there would still be food vendors… Can you imagine going to the movies and grabbing a bucket of matzos? TGI Fridays might change its menu to be completely bread based. I’m sure some delicatessen bread restaurants might even open. Regardless, we would still be paying $40 for some crappy pre-made meal that some highschool-dropouts “cooked” in the”kitchen.”

Hello world!

May 2, 2007

Wow. I never thought I’d actually make the jump and set up my own little “blog,” or whatever the hell you call these things. “Blog” seems so overused these days. Then again, I think anytime a white house spokesperson attempts to use a word like “blog,” that it immediately looses the stigma that once made it cool.

Oh well, I’m not going to frame myself as a hippocrite any longer, so I’ll move on.

The event that prompted me to start a blog for myself happens to fall on the blame of Joost, an ambitious internet-TV startup company.I found out about it while browsing Digg (.com), and was pretty excited about the idea of a free internet TV program that anyone could download. Trouble is, not everyone can download it. Because Joost is still in its beta, you must be invited by someone who already has downloaded the program. Trick is, I’ve got Joost, and I’ve also got an almost unlimited number of invites.

How does this tie in to blogging? Well, I’ve always wanted to start my own blog, but never had the guts to simply because I didn’t like the idea of writing on a site that most likely no one would look at. I also realized how valuable a Joost Invite might be, put two and two together, and *poof*, I’ve got a great way to solicit my site on the internet with very little work.
